Well, in Sacramento county you may not do that. You may not work on a friend's car. You may not use tools that are not 'normally' in your garage.
You may only do what they define as 'minor' automotive repair. Violate any of the following and you will be fined:
- Using tools not normally found in a residence;
- Conducted on vehicles registered to persons, not currently residing on the lot or parcel;
- Conducted outside a fully enclosed garage and resulting in any vehicle being inoperable for a period in excess of twenty-four hours.
They even provide a time limit for how long the work can take! Working on your motor and downtime might be longer than 24 hours while you wait for a part? Sorry, that's a violation and a fine.
What is the reasoning for this? Sacramento argues certain auto chemicals might harm the environment. See what all that environmental gibberish government officials push really comes down to? Control.
